On January the 24th of 2013 Marieke, Michiel, Nathan en Simon left Belgium for their internship in Cambodia for four months. Marieke and Nathan teached in Kampong Cham at the RTTC (RegionalTeacher Trainer Center). Simon and Michiel did the same in Battambang.
We worked for the VVOB, the Flemish Association for Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance, a non-profit organisation that implements development programmes in the education sector. We got different tasks: teaching, guiding students during their internship and developing eighty experiments boxes.
The VVOB asked us to decrease the gap between North and South. The first assignment is to let the prejudices that western people have about Cambodia disappear. Before we went to Cambodia we asked our friends and family what they knew about Cambodia and what they expect Cambodia would look like.
When we arrived in Cambodia we did some research if the prejudices were (not) correct. We divided all prejudices in different topics and we tried to collect movie and picture materials for each topic. Traffic, food, recreation are some topic examples. At the end of our internship we made short movies for each topic. We choosed to make movies because they are very accessible and easy to watch. In that way we hope that the cultural gap between Belgium and Cambodia will decrease.
Enjoy the movies
